OIG

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health and Human Services released a Compliance Program Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, which outlines voluntary actions manufacturers should consider to promote compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health care program rules and guidelines. This link outlines the guidelines for relationships between pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacy benefits managers (PBMs), the practice of "preceptorship" or shadowing and other consulting arrangements, manufacturer influence on formulary decisions, and additional practices.

OIG has also accepted testimony from Chief Counsel recommending that commercial sponsorship of CME can be maintained if the appropriate safeguards are implemented to prevent undue commercial influence and preserve the integrity and independence of CME. Click here to view this document.
